RepertoireBiography

Hi and welcome!

Traditionally, conductors might seem rather daunting but I hope as you find your way around this site you’ll see that this is not necessarily so. I hope that I can inspire others to listen, to learn and to respect fellow musicians, as well as to enjoy what they are doing!

My motivation to conduct came from many different influences but, simply put, orchestral music is the most beautiful thing in the world, and to work with musicians, whether professional, amateur, students or children, is both an honour and a joy.

One of the things that continually drives me is that ‘it can always be better’! It doesn’t matter how much you work at something, it can always be improved. We never stop learning. For the conductor, it’s just as much about clear communication and strong leadership as it is about technique.

As a boy I was everything from a ballet dancer to football supporter. (No, please don’t ask which clubs!) The zest for life, expression and enthusiasm these experiences gave me have been major influences in my career which is the guiding force of my life.   Please browse around and do contact me if you have any questions.

My biography, repertoire and curriculum vitae are available on the links at the top of this page.

Andrew Hodkinson

There were some amazing "corners" in the performance and brought about by the skill and direction of the remarkable Peter Stark. There just may be bigger 'names' out there in the profession, but very few better musicians and almost none to equal Peter's ability to communicate with the players.
